At Santa Claus Main Post Office in Rovaniemi, miracles happen every day – thousands of letters filled with wishes and Christmas magic arrive to us. Below, we explain how we process the data contained in the letters you send to Santa Claus.
When you send us a letter, we process its content and address details so that we can read your message and, at times, delight you with a reply. The content of letters may be digitised during reading and analysed using artificial intelligence. The AI removes personal data from the letter content (i.e. anonymises it) before the data is used for statistical purposes and planning marketing activities. This allows us to develop our services and plan campaigns that bring the joy of Christmas to even more people. This processing is carried out based on the legitimate interest of Santa Claus Main Post Office. If you do not want the content of your letter to be used for statistical purposes prior to anonymisation, you may object by contacting us via email at joulupukinpaaposti@posti.com. In that case, we will add you to an opt-out list and ensure that your letter is excluded from statistics and analytics.
Address details are retained only for as long as necessary to send letters – for example, the addresses used for replying letters are deleted immediately after the letters have been sent. Paper order forms are stored on our premises until they are delivered to the designated storage point. Letters are stored for the duration of the Christmas season, and some are archived in the National Archives of Finland to preserve the Christmas tradition.
Data may be disclosed to a partner who assists in preparing reply to letters in accordance with our instructions.
If you order a letter from Santa Claus at Santa Claus Main Post Office using a paper form, the processing of your data is based on a contract – we want to make sure your letter reaches its destination.
Many letters come from children, and we process children’s data with particular care – the magic of Christmas belongs to everyone.
